YWN regrets to inform you of the passing of former NYS Speaker Sheldon Silver at the age of 77.
A native of the Lower East Side, Silver was a longtime supporter of and defender of numerous causes important to the frum community.
He was instrumental in getting approval for Chevrah Hatzolah to operate in New York, as well as to use lights and sirens.
He was also extremely close with HaRav Dovid Feinstein zt”l, and took the posek hador’s guidance to heart.
Silver was battling cancer and passed away at a correctional facility in Massachusetts, where he was serving time for a fraud conviction.

BDE this is so sad. They were very unfair to him. May his family have nechama.
Shame on the parole Board and particularly Cuomo the Rasha and anti Semite for allowing him to die in jail. He did nothing wrong except be a Jew that the media hates. Cuomo released murderers and robbers before he resigned. May he rot in Hell one day. Also the anti Semitic Judge Valerie E. Caproni . May she rot in Hell one day.

This does not make sense.
He is 77 years old plus he is a sick man battling diseases. He was in jail for his issues, but all those young healthy guys in NY and California and other states, they can rob what ever they want, smash store windows and litter the streets of NY with a trillion pieces of glass, hurt people, smash people and etc. and etc. they never go to jail. A day later they are out on the street killing Korean women.
So sad that he passed away at a correctional facility.
May his family have a nechama and know of no more tza’ar.
I am aware of why he was incarcerated, I do not approve of the behavior. nevertheless I am mystified why hoodlums of all kinds are on the streets and released from jail due to Covid yet former NYS Speaker Sheldon Silver had to die alone like a dog.
