Harvey Weinstein was convicted Monday on some but not all charges at his assault trial, sealing his dizzying fall from powerful Hollywood studio boss to archvillain of the #MeToo movement.
He was convicted on charges stemming from assaults against women in 2006 assault and one in 2013. The jury found Weinstein not guilty on the most serious charge, that could have resulted in a life sentence.
Weinstein, 67, had a look of resignation as the verdict came in, and was seen talking to his lawyers shortly after.
The conviction was seen as a long-overdue reckoning for Weinstein after years of whispers about his behavior turned into a torrent of accusations in 2017 that destroyed his career and gave rise to #MeToo, the global movement to encourage women to come forward and hold powerful men accountable for their misconduct.
The jury of seven men and five women took five days to find him guilty.
Weinstein now faces charges in Los Angeles. In that case, announced just as the New York trial was getting under way on Jan. 6, authorities allege Weinstein assaulted women during Oscars week in 2013.

The prosecution failed on the most serious charges, suggesting a less the resounding victory for the prosecution, and that the jury didn’t believe the key witnesses on many if not most of the most inflamatory points.
I’m not usually the guy who says, “Why is this on YWN?” But a menuval like Harvey Weinstein? Why is this taka news for YWN?
Between this conviction on 3rd degree rape and the California trial yet to be held, this sexual abuser will probably spend the remainder of his life behind bars (especially considering his age and health). If not for Weintstein’s prior contributions to “Crooked Hillary”, we probably would be reading a Tweet about pidyon shivuim from the predator-in-chief and perhaps some speculation about whether he could pardon a state criminal law violation.
25 years for a 68 year old defendant seems like a pretty resounding victory for the prosecution to me!

Just ask Amudim how many active cases there are in our community. How many thousands of Frum victims are in therapy for the worst atrocities possible. He wasn’t sentenced to 25 years. Sentencing hasn’t happened yet. The punishment can range from 5 to 25 years, max. 5 years, the lowest amount, is practically nothing for what he did
Ferd: Sadly, even with this conviction, and the #MeTo movement progress, there are still very powerful persons in the public sector and even in religious circles who seem invulnerable to repeated accusations of assault and harassment. Hopefuelly, Weinstein is the beginning of a long-needed change.

This entire case in built on nothing more that “she said he said” so is at best exceedingly flimsy, and worth nothing, and indeed Harvey Weinstein ?”? is a totally innocent gentleman. The entire American Justice system and jury system is in absolute shambles.
