According to military investigators following an initial probe into the Tuesday night attack against a chareidi soldier in Meah Shearim, residents thought he was recruiting area residents to enlist. The soldier is a member of one of four regiments in the Tabor Homefront Command Search & Rescue unit. The soldier hasn’t yet completed his training to certify as a combatant.
He was visiting Meah Shearim to share his experience with his grandparents. It appears he was speaking with his brother-in-law, encouraging him to follow his lead, and this led residents to believe he was actively recruiting in their community, resulting in the confusion.
As a side note, the military is aware that a problem does exist and a hotline number was recently established, permitting chareidi soldiers to report if they feel threatened by certain civilians because they are chareidi and serving in the military. Such complaints are handled by military and civilian police working in unison.
Military officials add this latest incident is not an isolated one and assaults and threats against chareidi soldiers are on the rise, some making their way to the media while many others do not.

Can the assumption be that the brother in law was not in full-time learning? That is the probable reason he was talking to him about the IDF program.
I’m glad to see they are actively working to discourage IDF enlistment by religious Jews.

Wow… talk about making assumptions during the 9 days. I recall a few years ago a friend whispered in my ear in the shul telling me to look at that guy coming to collect money. Lo and behold “that guy” was a famous scholar in residence invited to speak that shabbos. The conclusion, never judge or make assumptions. Shame on residents who thought wrongly about the soldier.

And if he were recruiting? so what. These fools better stop acting like Arabs, or the backlash will be enormous. Normal people, Chareidim, Dati and Chilonim are sick of them already.
If they attack those defending them, spit at little girls going to school, throw garbage at the Kotal Plaza (Iknow, it’s only a small minority, but where is the outrage among their group), they don’t represent the Torah the rest of us know.
Arrest them and put them in boot camps. Maybe they’ll learn something. They clearly aren’t learning Torah.
It would be like a Russian diplomat in New York recruiting Russian spies in America.
