Yesh Atid Fears Naming A Street After Maran HaRav Shteinman ‘Will Insult Non-Religious Residents’

It was a stormy city council meeting on Wednesday, 6 Adar when Hadera Deputy Mayor (Yahadut Hatorah) Malkiel Elbaz and colleague Councilman Bentzion Nurdman suggested naming a street after Maran HaGaon HaRav Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman ZT”L.

Councilman (Yesh Atid) Shai Bracha interjected that if the street is going to be approved, the approval must be conditional to making certain the street selected does not have secular residents as not to insult their sensitivities.

His words were met with an angry response, that naming a street after a great rav would insult one’s sensitivities. Nurdman and Bracha argued the point for a few minutes. After an hour discussion on the matter, the naming request was passed but all of the conditions and stipulations surrounding the naming requested by Bracha were rejected.

    How ABSURD!…
With this logic we won’t name a street here in the states “Martin Luther King” if there are white people living on that street so as not to insult their sensitivities……

don’t know why it should insult anyone! Rav Steineman was beloved by all and he also treated all with respect.

What they mean is, THEY will be offended by a street named after the Rav. Let’s name one after Vanunu instead.
