The S&P 500 Index lost 14.71 points, or 1.1 percent, to 1,385.67. The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 134.5, or 1.1 percent, to 12,503.82. The Nasdaq Composite Index retreated 31.13, or 1.2 percent, to 2,491.53.
