The S&P 500 lost 13.21 points, or 0.9 percent, 1,413.42, its biggest drop since May 7. The Dow Jones Industrial Average sank 199.48, or 1.5 percent, to 12,828.68. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 23.83, or 1 percent, to 2,492.26.
