The S&P 500 added 5.56, or 0.4 percent, to 1,408.6. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 65.71, or 0.5 percent, to 12,897.89. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 1.58, or 0.1 percent, to 2,496.7.
