The Rev. Al Sharpton and Eric Garner’s mother and widow have prayed for the families of two slain New York City police officers at a holiday dinner event.
The Garner family observed a moment of silence Thursday and then prayed while serving meals and handing out toys with Sharpton at the Harlem headquarters of his National Action Network.
WABC-TV reports widow Esaw Garner told the crowd that she shares in the families’ suffering and would be more than happy to meet them.
Authorities say the man who executed Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu had referenced Garner’s death on Instagram before the shooting.
WABC-TV says Sharpton again condemned violence Thursday, telling the audience anyone who doesn’t, “is just trying to create a climate for their own political relevance.”
