Victims’ relatives have remembered the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 with a solemn ceremony — and some pique at New York City’s mayor for being late to join them.
Flight 587 crashed shortly after takeoff on Nov. 12, 2001, killing 260 people. It was headed to the Dominican Republic.
A moment of silence was scheduled for 9:17 a.m. Wednesday. Mayor Bill de Blasio arrived at 9:23 a.m.
De Blasio said later Tuesday he woke up feeling sluggish but should have “gotten myself moving quicker.” He added that heavy fog delayed the police boat that officials had thought would be the fastest route to the ceremony in the Rockaways.
Some attendees bristled at his tardiness. But the organizing committee’s president said the group appreciated City Hall’s help arranging the event.

Deblasio got lost in fog? Not first time that’s happened to him. He always seems a little foggy on the issues.

Being late for an important event, shows lack of respect and regard for those people. Incredible how a mayor and president can do that .
