Amid mounting tensions surrounding the new chareidi draft law including nationwide protests, 170 soldiers took their oath of service in a Jordan Valley military base.

Five buses arrived in time for the ceremony, bringing family members of the newest ID soldiers, many passing the chareidi protests on their way to the base.

Let’s hope they leave the IDF as shtark in their yiddishkeit as when they went in.

Maran Hagaon Harav A.L. Shteinman SHLIT”A is opposed to all IDF service, including Nachal Chareidi, even for NON-LEARNERS!

That may be a “true chayal”, but the greatest Rabbis have long ago ruled that it’s not what the Torah wants.

#3, Mark Levin – I agree – and I am a supporter of Chareidim serving in units like Nachal Chareidi. It is important that the IDF make accommodations to enable Chareidim to serve without compromising their level of Frumkeit – but it is also important for Chareidim to work with the IDF to make this possible.

With some goodwill on both sides, this issue could be resolved…

Maran Hagaon Harav A.L. Shteinman Shlita may object to military service, even for non-learners, but I am very proud of these young men. They are doing the right thing, even though it’s hard.

I admire Rabbi Shteinman’s dedication to Torah, but I don’t poskin by him. Nor Rabbi Auerbach, etc. They are a different flavor of frum. I think their opinions on secular studies and military service are bad for the Jews. I admire them, but I think they are on the wrong side of the fight.
