The Kiddush Hashem that was highlighted today cannot be described in words.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn had to call Police Commissioner Ray Kelly today, although his role in such incidents is not clear, to get an ambulance to respond to an emergency – after a 911 call failed to bring the City’s first responder paramedics for 30 minutes.
At the same time, an aid to the speaker called Hatzolah of Williamsburg, sources told YWN. The ambulance that arrived at the scene, minutes after Ms. Quinn’s call to Kelly, was not a city ambulance but one operated by Hatzolah volunteers, Yosel Levy and Motty Klein, from the Williamsburg division. The Hatzolah bus, YWN was told, arrived at the scene within 4 minutes after the call was made.
Quinn was attending a morning press conference in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with City Council member Diana Reyna when a young female intern of Reyna’s collapsed to the ground.
The incident happened outside P.S. 132 at 320 Manhattan Avenue during one of several events Quinn had scheduled today to promote her waste management plan.
According to the NY Post, a call to 911 was made quickly, witnesses said. Meanwhile, Quinn and Reyna were seen putting ice on the woman’s forehead and talking to her as they waited for the ambulance.
But after nearly half an hour none arrived, so Quinn phoned the NYPD. “Within a few minutes an ambulance arrived and rushed the intern to a hospital,” the NY post writes. “I called Ray Kelly,” Quinn said, not knowing an aide has called the Hatzolah.
An outraged Quinn later told reporters the wait was “inexcusable” and “outrageous.”
“And I’m going to get to the bottom of it,” she said. “I don’t know what in God’s name could have taken so long to get an ambulance to help this young woman.”
She said her staff made several calls after the initial 911 call. “My office was calling everyone,” she said. Quinn said of her call to Kelly, “I said I need an ambulance. He said ‘Where are you?’”
Witnesses on the scene told YWN, no city Ambulance was immediately seen at the scene after Ms. Quinn issued the call to Kelly.

This is an old story. 911 is a joke! We’ll probably find out that the FDNY bafoons were on “lunch break”! There was a similar story a while ago where someone was choking and an EMT was in the same eatery at the time, but she was on “break” so she didn’t help! Yes we clearly see the difference between Kllal Yisroel & the Umas Hagoyim. Me Kiamcha Yisroel!
