Ashdod Shul Was Closed – Lives May Have Been Saved

The Rashbi Shul in Ashdod sustained a direct hit in rocket attacks in southern Israel over Shabbos. The shul was closed for the past two weeks because the gabbai had to have surgery.

The building was hit in one of the rocket attacks, but it was empty since it was closed. On a regular shabbos there would have been mispallalim community members report.

More than 20 rockets slammed into Southern Israel in the latest attacks.

Anyone else bothered by the strangeness of this story? Have you ever heard of a shul being closed because the gabbai had surgery? That’s it – shul is canceled? Isn’t that what a gabbai sheni is for? Something is missing from this story.
B”H no one was injured, though.
