President Shimon Peres on Tuesday visited the al-Jazar Mosque in Akko, viewed as an important Islamic house of worship in Israel. The president was accompanied by Sheikh Samir Asi, making the visit in honor of the Islamic month of Ramadan.
Speaking with reporters, Mr. Peres commented on recent events in Syria and Libya, stating, “I hope the nations of the region gain their freedom. We are witness to the Libyan people’s unwillingness to continue tolerating dictatorial rule and corruption, seeking peace and liberty. I am filled with enthusiasm regarding events in Syria. The protesters in the streets are brave individuals endangering their lives on behalf of freedom”.

The seems an appropriate things for the Head of State to do. Heads of State frequently visit minority’s house of worship. It’s derech eretz.
that’s nice, maybe he will pay a visit to a synagogue by walking there in honor of the shabbos.
