In the end, it was secret Army intelligence planes that did Times Square terror suspect Faisal Shahzad in. Armed with his cell phone number, they circled the skies over the New York area, intercepting a call to Emirates Airlines reservations, before scrambling to catch him at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
There were many developments in the fast-paced investigation, but sources told CBS 2 how the operation went down. Spooked by reports that authorities were looking for a Pakistani-American, Shahzad rushed out of his Bridgeport, Conn. Home and headed for the airport. He made the reservations on the way, paying cash for his ticket.
Agents raiding his Bridgeport home found components for the bomb device, including firecrackers and the boxes for the alarm clocks. They also reportedly found a hand-drawn map of potential targets, including the 4, 5, and 6 trains and the Staten Island ferry. There was also evidence of his ties to Pakistan, including a Karachi ID and residency papers.
Pakistan officials have reportedly made arrests in connection with the case. One of the suspects, Tausif Ahmed, is believed to have traveled to American two months ago to meet with Shahzad.
In the end, it took officials just 53 hours and 20 minutes to solve the case.

Before this morning I never heard anything about that.
The collection platform, if it was Army – it could have been Air Force, Navy, or other organizations – was nisht azoy secret. It was the Guardrail Common Sensor System.
The Navy SIGINT airborne platform is the EP-3E, the Air Force platform is Compass Call, and the other organizations’ platforms are NOYB (none of your business). Information on all of these systems (except for the last) is available on the Internet.

Why do we have to tell terrorists how they were caught? Is it because we are going into regular courts instead of tribunals and will have to release the info anyway.

Only the Israeli’s know how to operate in Dubai… I wouldn’t trust this administration operating in Dubai – they already read him Miranda rights here so they obviously are not interested in the big fish.
All these fasinating pieces of info are harmful – they teach them how to be careful next time: get a different cell phone, etc.

According to the Constitution the USA is required to apply the Miranda rights because he is an American citizen.
Their may be grounds to revoke his citizenship for a number of reasons. The easiest one will be proving that he lied during his citizenship oath.
The xmas airline bomber is different as he was not an American citizen and it didn’t happen on US soil although it can be argued that A US airline over international falls under US jurisdiction and laws.
#9: You are correct. The cyber war is underway. There have been a few skirmishes out in the open (e.g., Russia against Georgia), but the war is going on in the darkness of cyberspace. This is a real war with potentially devastating consequences, and we need a lot more cyberwarriors on our side; the Chinese have 400,000 cyberwarriors right now.
