President Donald Trump announced today that Army Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster is his new national security adviser.
McMaster is a widely respected military strategist. Trump called him “a man of tremendous talent and tremendous experience.”
Mr. Trump made the announcement at his Mar-a-Lago getaway in Palm Beach, Fla., where he has been interviewing candidates to replace Michael T. Flynn, who was forced out after withholding information from Vice President Mike Pence about a call with Russia’s ambassador.
The announcement comes a week after Michael Flynn resigned the position when he lost the trust of the administration because of his discussions with a Russian ambassador prior to Trump taking office.
McMaster, 54, is a career officer in the Army and wrote a book critical of the Vietnam War in 1997 called “Dereliction of Duty.”

So it’s big news when Trump appoints someone to an important position in his administration who is actually qualified for the job.
