The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has given its approval for Jack Lew to assume the role of U.S. ambassador to Israel.

Twelve committee members voted in favor of Lew’s nomination, while nine voted against it. Notably, Rand Paul, a Republican, aligned with Democrats in supporting Lew’s nomination.

The next step involves bringing the nomination before the entire Senate for a comprehensive vote, which is anticipated to take place in the coming days.
