YWN regrets to inform you of the sudden Petira of Hagaon HaRav Shlomo Zalman Kaufman ZT”L, a Rov and dayan in the Chestnut Ridge area. He was 71.
Monsey Scoop reports that Rav Kaufman had chest pains and Rockland Hatzolah was called to his home just after 6:00PM. While Paramedics were rushing him to the Good Samaritan Hospital, he suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance. Hatzolah and doctors at the hospital did everything they could to save his life, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful.
Rav Kaufman was a tremendous Talmid Chochom, a highly sought-after Dayan and Posek, and had a Shul in Chestnut Ridge.
Levaya details are tentatively set for Friday morning 11:00AM at 108 Scotland Hill Road in Chestnut Ridge.

Rabbi Kaufman was a tremendous Rav. He was a bal tova, bal chesed, a great and tremendous talmid chochum. He never charged me for his precious time. He is a great loss for klal Yisroel. He will be very much missed. ??? ?? ?????? ??? ??????? ??? ???? ????

also so kind and extremely patient. was able to call numerous times in a row if more clarifications needed and was always patient when i called back. so heartbreaking. A tremendous loss for Klal yisroel and monsey bfrat
Where did he live before Chestnut Ridge? I am a lifelong Monseyite and never heard of him.
Dayan Kaufman was a HUGE talmid chacham, Dayan, Posek, and Rav.
I have had the honor to know him, interact with him and have him as all of the above.
It is with deep and profound sadness that I heard this news.
He learned under the gedolei Hador. He did also much chesed for the community my
Assisting in fixing tefillin and necklaces for Kahallas for the destitute.
I was told by the main sofer in Monsey that he can count with his fingers those who truly knew tefillin Halachas in the entire world and he was one of them and he would only go to him.
His specialty in medical Halacha and hilchos eiruvim, Mitzvahs tluyos baHaaretz and many other areas was incredibly impressive.

When we were drifting hopelessly through the most difficult period in our lives,Rabbi Kaufman threw us the proverbial lifeline and held our hands as we suffered through it. He did not know us previously nor had any reason to extend himself on our behalf, yet he did. Over and over again! He once told us I will always call u back if I can?t answer your call. And so he did! Over and over and over again!, May Hashem pay him back !
More than anything, he wasn’t afraid to stand up to the bullies. Monsey lost a true dayan and it’s a sad day.
