In a weekly talk delivered from his home on Tuesday evening, HaGaon HaRav Gershon Edelstein explained why the Litvish yeshivah community isn’t noheig to travel to Meron on Lag B’omer.
“It’s almost Lag B’Omer and people are traveling to Meron,” the Rosh Yeshivah said. “We’re not noheig like that. We received our hashba’ah [influnce] from the Brisker Rav, the Chazon Ish, the Ponevezher Rav – and they didn’t travel to Meron. Therefore we don’t go, we sit and learn. Talmud Torah K’neged Kulam.”
“Talmud Torah K’neged Kulam is written about the fruits in Olam HaZeh. It’s written that these are the things from which a person eats the fruits in this world – Kibbud Av V’Eim and Gemilus Chassadim and many other things. And Talmud Torah K’neged Kulam.”
“We receive the fruits in this world and the keren is in Olam Haba. Nu, so is it kadai to lose this revach? Do we want to lose the revach of the fruits in this world and the keren in Olam Haba?”

Rabban Shimon Bar Yochai was neither Chassidish nor Litvish. There are times you close the gemara and celebrate Yiddishkeit.
Rav elyashiv zatzal was never in Meron in his life.
This is not to say it?s not one of the biggest Places for tefilla but it?s for bein hazmanim or in an emergency, not in middle of the Zman. this is the position of the yeshivos.

I think it would a great idea for everyone to post their views on if going to Meron during the Zman, or staying and learning is better.
Please don?t forget to mention important, earth shattering ideas about Achdus , the importance of Kosher outlets, loving all different types of Jews.

May we humbly suggest that at least the boys who throw “leben” at the Nasi in Ponevezh, should be sent off to Meron to distribute leben at Hachnasas Orchim Rashbi and we’ll save the Yeshiva and help yidden at the same time… 2 birds with one leben!

If you do the right thing Hashem will protect you. I’m sure most gedolim/talmidei chachomim, if you ask them outright which is more important, they’ll say learning Torah. If they don’t, time to find better leaders for yourself.

Maran Harosh Yeshiva Hagaon Rav Edelstein is 1000% correct. Where do see a Mitzvah to go to Meron in Shas or Halachah? As opposed to the Gemara in Peah (1:1) that the Mitzvah of Talmud Torah is equal to ALL of the other 612 mitzvahs combined!

It’s not that discussion on this topic is taboo and needs to be suppressed, but rather because it is simply too risky to Kavod Hatorah. This should apply to any published opinion from a famous Gadol (or any respected Da’as Torah, from any community, for that matter). Of course you can publish opposing views from other Gedolim, but then, at that point, the diversity needs to stop out of pure necessity.
