He was our shaliach doing whant we l be doing and that is showing more love and support for the soldiers – not only now but all year, ALWAYS! They’re us and we’re them! Upon us it ought be declared “one nation under G-d, indivisible” we are all the Am HaShem even though we may look different. It’s sad and a rachmanus on them that they’re distanced from the hayliger Torah and its way of life but they are the same Yidden as us and Hamas wants us all killed! This Chabad fellow z”l was doing what we all ought be doing!
To think that he lost his life while performing a Kiddush HaShem aside from his display of Ahavas Yisroel.
May he be a kaporah for the entire Klal Yisroel in this difficult time.
    Yehi Zichroi Baruch!

I don’t understand YWN. In which Nusach does it say Baruch Dayan Emmes and not HaEmmes? Don’t you know that you can’t change the Matbea SheTavu Chachamin?!

While, I usually agree with you, RabbiYoni, in this case you are nitpicking. When people say BD”E when hearing bad news, they are not reciting the actual bracha so there is no inyan of changing the nusach of anything.

Yanky55, I appreciate that we are normally on the same page.
Yes, I AM nitpicking. I am unsure how an entire Tzibbur of Frum people constantly make a mistake in their speech.

    Rabbi Yoni:
If I had to guess, I would posit that the common initials are BD”E rather than BD”H because the ikar is the “E”, as in “Emes”, not the “H” as in “ha”, which is simply “the” and, more importantly, could theoretically therefore stand for anything.

That’s not to say one can CH”V change the nussach if CH”V one has to actually recite the bracha. But, on paper, writing “h” would be more ambiguous than “e” so it makes sense, IMHO, to write “BD”E” rather than “BD”H”.

Just pointing out… there were no fatalities during operation protective edge, until the 3 weeks kicked in… Chazal tell us to stay away from more dangerous activities during the 3 weeks, even if it’s for a good cause…

May Hashem comfort the family among the mourners of Zion & Jerusalem!
