yitayningwut: According to sefarim from the period (that chazal left out of kesuvim for reasons we don’t know) they made it eight days because they couldn’t celebrate sukkos for several years and on the first channuka they actually brought the parei hachag, which incidentally explains Beis Shammai’s shita.
