They remove a portion of the stomach. The portion which is removed has the ability to stretch and what’s left looks similar to a sleeve rather than a football. Moreover, various peptides and hormones such as Ghrelin (which tells the brain that you’re hungry) are produced in the part of the stomach that is removed. Aside from not having nearly as much room for food as before, you’re brain is no longer tricked into thinking that it still hungry even after one has eating more than enough food. If you’ve ever seen guys chow down a 2 lb plate of chulent on a Thursday night – you’ll understand.
