The difference between now and fifty years ago is that fifty years ago, the jewish community was simply trying to fit in. The shuls that had mixed dancing were picking the lesser of many evils, and in many cases providing a forum through which intermarriage and assimilation would be minimized. If you walk around our communities today, you come to realize that people who know better simply don’t care, and their children are taking it even further. If I see mommy wearing a skirt two inches above her knee, then why can’t I wear leggings with a skirt so small it looks like I’m simply wearing pants (and so on and so forth)….
